Tributes Following Death of Stockton Resident Mary Butterwick

STOCKTON-ON-TEES Borough Council will pay its respects to Mary Butterwick when the flag of the Borough will be flown at half-mast on the day of her funeral.

Both Stockton Town Hall and the Council’s Municipal Buildings will fly the flag at half-mast on Friday 9 October to commemorate the Stockton resident, whose charitable work has helped thousands of people.

The Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ian Dalgarno, visited the Stockton branch of the Butterwick Hospice yesterday (Thursday 1 October) to offer his condolences and sign the memorial book.

The Mayor said: “It was with great sadness that I learnt of Mary’s passing.

“She has done so much to help so many people over the years. I think it is only fitting that her work is recognised in this respectful manner and I am sure that the residents of Stockton Borough will feel the same way.”

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “Mary’s tireless compassion and devotion to the care of people with life-limiting illnesses and their families was truly inspirational.

“She made an unforgettable impact on the lives of thousands of our residents and her wonderful legacy will live on through the valuable work of the charity she founded.”
