Triple competition achievement for Red House School pupils

Three pupils at a leading independent school in Teesside are celebrating success after receiving awards in the national Independent School Association (ISA) Essay Competition.

The pupils, James Aitken, Edward Carter and Isobel Eason, from Years 6-8 at Red House School in Norton, Stockton on Tees, have triumphed on a national scale, with James taking second place, and Edward and Isobel receiving ‘Highly Commended’ awards for their original writing.

Isobel, whose essay titled “And that is why I shall never speak to him (or her) again” gained her the Highly Commended Award in the Max Gate category, is personally celebrating her third win in the ISA Essay Competition.

Colette Fryer, Head of English at Red House, said: “We’re so proud of the children’s achievements in this year’s ISA Competition. It’s great to see them receive recognition for the hard work they put in to the essays, and it’s even better to see how happy it makes them.

“We’ve taken part in the competition for many years at Red House School, and had winners over the last 11 years. The competition is a great way to get our pupils’ creative juices flowing and we love the enthusiasm it encourages in English as a subject.”

The ISA Essay Competition is an annual opportunity for pupils at ISA member schools, to allow their writing skills to shine. Wordsmiths are invited to submit entries for a range of prizes, aimed at age groups from year five and above, encouraging creativity and promoting confidence.

National Arts Assistant and Partnership Coordinator at ISA, Marie-Ange Moncuy, said: “Every year, ISA is very impressed by the level, consistency and quality of the entries from Red House School.

“It is always a pleasure to read the essays from the pupils, and we’d like to extend our thanks to them and the school for their continued participation in the competition.”
