TTE has continued its proud history of supporting the domestic steel industry, placing 10 of its trainees with the newly-formed British Steel, which will help provide its next generation of skilled workers.

Made up of electrical, fabrication and mechanical apprentices, nine second-year apprentices will complete another year of learning at TTE’s South Bank headquarters before joining up with British Steel.

The final trainee, who is in his fourth year, will be based at Teesside Beam Mill and will spend his final year working on a number of live projects with the company, before potentially joining its workforce as a full-time member of staff.

The students, Thomas Clark, Conor Sharp, Jacob Nicholson, Wez Stone, Dale Harrison, Harry Robson, Daniel Bullock, Ben Mead and Jordon O’Hanranhan, were selected after impressing during a rigorous interview process.

At TTE, students take part in significant workshop-based training to develop the core skills required by employers. Students work towards Level 2 or 3 qualifications alongside practical experience utilising industry-standard equipment at TTE’s large workshop facility and are trained by industry specialists who also deliver skills and qualifications to global companies.

Steve Grant, Managing Director at TTE, said: “TTE has a long history of supporting the region’s industry and has been providing a steady stream of competent young professionals for more than 25 years.

“Our trainees have developed an impressive skills set during the two years they spent in our industry-standard workshop and will join British Steel ready to contribute immediately.

“The latest cohort should be very proud to be working with British Steel in an industry that has been at the heart of Teesside and its economy for decades.”

Tony Malone, Cranes and Infrastructure Engineer at British Steel, said: “When we interviewed for positions on our apprenticeship programme, TTE’s trainees were very impressive; they have an excellent foundation that we be able to build on during their placement.

“Apprentices are an integral part of our workforce development strategy and are becoming increasingly important as companies overcome an ageing workforce and the existing skills gaps.”
