Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Tyne and Wear Metro and Smooth Radio spreading festive cheer to commuters

As the Christmas countdown continues, the Tyne and Wear Metro has teamed up with Smooth Radio to spread some festive cheer to customers on the chilly winter days.

Metro and Smooth’s elves are been touring around the network all this week. Having already visited Park Lane, Gateshead they will be at Haymarket on Friday 15 December and Monument on Saturday 16 December from 2pm until 6pm.

With Smooth Radio providing a suitably seasonal playlist, the team is handing out Metro goodies and helping passengers by sharing Metro’s Christmas service information, including additional services during the busy festive season and late night services on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Metro customers have also been using Metro and Smooth’s pop-up Elfie Selfie station and sharing their photos online. Share yours using #MetroChristmasCountdown on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Metro Services Director, Chris Carson, said: “The festive period is a busy time for Metro customers, we’re delighted to be able to get out and about with our friends at Smooth Radio to spread some Christmas cheer. We hope the extra Metro services will make life a little easier for our passengers and help everyone to make the most of the festive season.”

Extra Metro trains are scheduled to help shoppers, families and partygoers as they descend on the region’s shopping centres, nightspots and Christmas markets.

The additional Christmas Metro services will be in operation throughout December, providing a higher frequency of service during Metro’s busiest months of the year.

Times vary depending on the train destination and customers are therefore advised to check times before travelling. For full information about service times, visit www.nexus.org.uk/metro/

In addition to the extra services, Metro has teamed up with a number of local businesses across Type and Wear to offer exclusive deals to Metro customers.

Deals include 10% off at MFA Bowl in Sunderland, 2 for 1 tickets for New Year New Artists at The Sage Gateshead, free cake with any main meal at Meet & Treat Noodle House in Newcastle, tapas for £5 at River Beat, and a free drink with any hot waffle and ice cream at Minchella & Co in South Shields.
