USA in Stockton with care home’s Independence Day party

AMERICAN flags flew high in Stockton-on-Tees as elderly care home residents joined in the Independence Day celebrations.

The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, brought out the star-spangled banners and enjoyed a slap-up United States style lunch.

The menu included hotdogs, slider burgers, macaroni and cheese, onion rings and fries followed by a dessert of pancakes with syrup and ice cream as well as muffins.

American music and a themed quiz also helped transport the residents 3,000 miles across the Atlantic without leaving their care home.

The 4th July merriments were double for one resident, 86-year-old Sheila Bradley, who celebrated her birthday on the same day.

Helen Wood, home manager at The Beeches Care Home, said: “Independence Day is an American celebration but it was fun to join in here in Stockton.

“The residents thoroughly enjoyed the day, with their favourite American music playing out of stereo while they tucked into their diner-style food.

“We also had a lovely celebration for Sheila Bradley, who shares her birthday with the American day of independence. Everyone had a great time.”
