Vickers Re-signs with Newcastle Falcons

Newcastle_Falcons_logo.svgNewcastle Falcons have confirmed Loose Head prop Rob Vickers will remain with the club for the upcoming season, following on from an outstanding campaign from the 34 year old.

One of the club’s outstanding performers in season 2015/16, Vickers was in a fine vein of form, scoring five tries and forming part of a formidable Falcons pack that impressed both in scrums and mauls.

Having been part of the fixtures and fittings at the club for the best part of a decade, and already a double centurion in Falcons appearances, Vickers embarks on what will be an eleventh season of professional rugby confident he can continue to perform for the club.

“It’s been an enjoyable season personally, scoring a few tries and playing a lot and I am really excited for the future at the club.  There have been some really good signings and we have retained a really good group of players as well.

“The season hasn’t gone as we had hoped, but we know it is something that we can build on and I’m looking forward to coming back in and getting back to work.

“I’m lucky that there is a lot of competition as a loose head and that we have good hookers and tight heads and that we have a good relationship. I’m looking forward to keeping going, there’s a little bit of life left in this old carcass yet!”

Director of rugby Dean Richards said, “Rob has been a key figure this season for us and continues to be a valuable player.  He has been playing very well for a long time now and has developed a habit for helping himself to tries this season.

“He is an important leader within the group and is a fan favourite, as shown by his award and it is good news he will be part of the squad for a good while longer.”
