NORTH EAST charity WECare Worldwide has announced its second ‘Winter Wonderland’ fundraising ball, with charity founder and ‘supervet’ Janey Lowes promising a super evening.
Taking place at The Assembly Rooms in Newcastle on Saturday 25th November the Ball is packed full of fun with fine food, drinks, dancing and a magician on the line-up. Guests also have the opportunity to win fantastic prizes in a raffle and auction on the night.
WECare Worldwide is a registered charity set up in the North East by UK volunteers to help the street dogs of Sri Lanka in desperate need of care and provides neutering, vaccinations and treatment for the stray dogs.
Gosforth vet Janey Lowes set up the charity in partnership with Westway Vets after she witnessed the plight of sick and injured animals while on holiday in Sri Lanka in 2014. The charity has since treated thousands of animals, helping to counteract the problem of rabies and the estimated three million stray dogs on the island.
Janey, who received a prestigious ‘Point of Light’ award from David Cameron in recognition of her volunteer work and won ‘Vet of the Year’ the Daily Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards, has been overwhelmed with the support the charity has received so far but is urging people to continue their support and join them for this fantastic night out.
She said: “WeCare began in Newcastle so it’s only fitting that we’re able to host another Winter Wonderland ball in the heart of the region where the charity was founded. Many, many people here in the North East have helped the charity so we’re thrilled that we all have a chance to celebrate the good work and raise more vital funds.
“I know first-hand that we are making a real positive difference in Sri Lanka, this event could really help us with the assistance that we need to continue transforming the lives of these animals.
“Last year’s Ball was a great success and we’re hoping to make this year’s even better with a fundraising target of £10,000. This money will help hundreds of street dogs in Sri Lanka receive the care and treatment that they are in desperate need of and, as a result, improve life for thousands of Sri Lankan people by reducing the risk of rabies.” says Janey
