Four years after bringing its awe-inspiring production Alegría to Newcastle, Cirque du Soleil is back on stage for the first UK arena tour of its signature production, Varekai. The critically-acclaimed show, updated and featuring new acts yet to be seen in the UK just lay down its suitcases at Metro Radio Arena to deliver amazing performances from Wednesday 15th February to Sunday 19th February 2017.
This is it, after hours of work, many trucks back and forth, tons of people working on the floor and in the air, the stage is now set-up and Varekai is ready to host you in its extraordinary world – a world where something else is possible.
Cirque is in town:
Couple hours before the show, we had the chance to go behind the scenes where we met Julie, the touring PR of Varekai. We had the opportunity to have a chat with her about the upcoming show. Varekai was born in 2002 after a two-year creation process. During this amount of time, a creative director worked hard to build a team, think about the lights, the music, costumes but also the design of the stage, the make-up and so much more. But as you can guess, a show of this calibre need a lot of practice. Most of the artists start training really young and all of them have gymnastic backgrounds. Right now, artists keep training and stretching backstage whereas others are on stage for the rehearsals of the impressive Russian Swings all towards one same goal: be the best on stage and make sure all of you will have an amazing time!
From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is a major Québec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to more than 160 million spectators in more than 400 cities in over sixty countries on all continents. Tonight, after years of hard work and a fantastic human experience, no less than 60 performing artists from 30 different countries are ready to make your time at Metro Radio Arena unforgettable.
The impressive Russian Swings’ rehearsals:
