Armed Forces DayMIDDLESBROUGH will again show its support for the UK’s service personnel and veterans on Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 18.

This year, Armed Forces Day will take place in Albert Park and will be run by local reservist volunteers.

The park will be a fitting venue for this fun-filled family day, including a parade, band performance and a variety of demonstrations, activities and entertainment.

The event runs from 10.30am-3pm and is open to all, from families and local groups to veterans and potential new recruits.

The celebration – formerly known as Veterans’ Day – has been developed to reflect the wider role of the UK Armed Forces in the life of the nation and its local communities, and their involvement in ongoing conflicts around the globe.

The Parade, made up of service veterans, Air, Sea and Army Cadets, the military standards, veterans, local army and cadet units, will form up at the bandstand at 10.50am for a service at the Cenotaph at 11am.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant Sir Harry Wilmot will be in attendance the salute will be taken at the South African War Memorial after the service.

Armed Forces Day is a national celebration of local support for the military.

The day is being supported by local reserve units, Middlesbrough Council, Middlesbrough College and Taylor Wimpey. The event is open to everyone.
