Centre-back Mike Williamson has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent deal.
The 32-year-old has moved to the Championship side for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on an 18-month deal at Molineux, where he spent time on loan earlier this season.
Williamson joined Newcastle in January 2010 from Portsmouth, and made 171 appearances during six years on Tyneside, scoring two goals.
He played a key role in helping the Magpies lift the Championship title at the end of the 2009/10 campaign and then re-establishing the Club in the Barclays Premier League.
Williamson played 25 times in the 2011/12 season as United finished fifth in the top flight, and then featured in the Club’s run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League the following year.
The former Watford and Wycombe defender netted his first Newcastle goal in a 3-3 home draw with Crystal Palace in August 2014, and was also on target during a Capital One Cup victory over Northampton at St. James’ Park 12 months later.
As well as his contribution on the pitch, Williamson was also a great ambassador off it – an enthusiastic and regular attendee at community events and a passionate supporter of the Club’s official charity, Newcastle United Foundation.
