WOULD-BE North East wine experts can show that they know their Shiraz from their Sauvignon – and help raise funds for a worthy cause.
The NSPCC’s Sunderland Business Board is hosting a Red and White Wine Challenge event on 18 May, with a fun evening where guests can get expert tips and advice before identifying a range of wines.
The event, which is taking place at the Roker Hotel and is sponsored by Tavistock Hospitality and LWC Wines, will start with some expert tips about various wines before the blind tasting.
A drinks reception, three course dinner and entertainment will also be included in the evening, with prizes for the highest scorers and the opportunity to sample some Poetic License gin.
The NSPCC’s Sunderland Business Board raises funds to support projects in the area, including the charity’s schools service.
This includes the Speak Out Stay Safe programme which teaches children how to keep themselves safe from abuse and neglect and has already spoken to thousands of young people across the city.
Chair of the NSPCC Sunderland Business Board, Umesh Patel said: “This is a great opportunity for people to enjoy a great night out and give back to the local community.
“All of the money raised will have a huge impact on the lives of vulnerable children living in Sunderland.“We’re looking forward to what is sure to be a really enjoyable evening which will hopefully raise a lot of money for a really worthwhile charity.”
Michelle Meldrum, Executive Director (Gentoo) who is also on the fund-raising Board is encouraging people to support the event.“At Gentoo we are passionate about protecting and supporting vulnerable young children and adults,” she said.
As Vice Chair of the NSPCC’s Sunderland Board I get to see some of the great work the NSPCC carry out in our city. The Board’s role is to raise as much money as possible to help transform the lives of vulnerable children right here in Sunderland.”
