Work gets Underway on New Hartlepool Homes for Over 55s

Screen Shot 2015-05-29 at 12.17.07BUILDING work is underway in Hartlepool on a development of new affordable rental homes for the over 55s.

Owned and managed by Endeavour Housing Association – part of North Star Housing Group – the £1.5million scheme will create 16 new bungalows, two of which will be fully wheelchair accessible, on previously undeveloped land on Eskdale Road.

The development further enhances Endeavour’s strong presence in Hartlepool, taking its portfolio of quality affordable homes to a landmark of 300 throughout the town.

All of the new homes, which will be developed by Gus Robinson Developments, will be highly energy efficient, and will feature plentiful car parking and private gardens. In addition, the wheelchair accessible bungalows will incorporate a number of other thoughtful design features including carports and height adjustable kitchens. The site is also close to a wide range of local amenities and has excellent transport links.

The development, which attracted a grant contribution from the Homes and Communities Agency, is due for completion in November, and residents in the Eskdale Road area will also benefit from enhanced recreational play and sports equipment as a result of the build.

Angela Lockwood, Chief Executive of North Star Housing Group comments: “Well designed housing for the over 55s is always in demand, and we believe that these 16 new bungalows will significantly contribute to meeting local need.  As a Group, we pride ourselves on our ability to respond to the housing challenges faced by communities, and feel that the Eskdale Road development is another example of how successful our approach can be.”

Damien Wilson, Assistant Director (Regeneration) at Hartlepool Borough Council, commented: “We are delighted that Hartlepool will benefit from these new homes in addition to a range of fantastic new play and sports equipment.  The outcome of this project undoubtedly comes as a consequence of the way in which all of the partners have worked together, and will give the best possible outcomes for the people of Hartlepool.”

Steve Bell, Land and Development Director at Gus Robinson Developments commented: “This development is great news for Hartlepool, not only thanks to the great quality affordable homes it will bring, but because of the investment in local skills and labour used in the site’s construction. We are very excited to be on board.

“We have had an excellent start to the year and this contract gives us a fantastic start to the second quarter.”
