North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Visitors to intu Metrocentre can ensure beautifully wrapped Christmas presents this festive season with a quick visit to the Marie Curie gift wrapping kiosk.

Volunteers from the charity will be on hand to wrap Christmas presents of all shapes and sizes in return for a donation to a very worthwhile cause – all funds raised will support Marie Curie services here in the region.

The gift wrapping kiosk is located in Upper Town Square, near Oasis, from Monday 12 December to Friday 23 December – meaning that gorgeous gifts are still achievable even for last minute Christmas shoppers! Presents can be handed over at the kiosk, where visitors can choose from a variety of festive wrapping paper.

Christmas 2016 will be the 16th year that Marie Curie has run its gift wrapping service in intu Metrocentre and in that time more than £54,000 has been donated by generous shoppers in return for perfectly packaged parcels. Every £20 raised provides one hour of local nursing care to those who need it most, so over the years the gift wrapping service has funded an amazing 2,700 hours of care.

The Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle offers a wide variety of services to patients with life limiting illnesses and their families – all in a friendly and welcoming environment. From in-patient care to day therapy sessions, all support is tailored to a patient’s individual needs – including nursing care, physiotherapy, complementary therapies and specialist emotional support.

As well as the work carried out by staff in the Newcastle hospice, a team of dedicated Marie Curie nurses work across the region offering people end of life care in their own homes – giving patients a choice about where they spend their final days.

Helen Atkinson, marketing manager at intu Metrocentre, said:

“Marie Curie is a charity that is close to the heart of many people in the region and we’re delighted to welcome back their charity gift wrapping service to intu Metrocentre for the 16th year running.

“intu Metrocentre shoppers are renowned for their generosity and over the years their contributions have helped Marie Curie provide invaluable services to patients and their families.

“Thousands of shoppers are expected to take advantage of the gift wrapping service this year – a perfect way to tick another job off the festive to-do list while supporting a very worthy cause.”

Becky Fishwick, Gateshead Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie, added:
“We’re extremely grateful for the continued support from intu Metrocentre and the generosity of their shoppers. The Christmas wrap is a fantastic festive fundraiser for Marie Curie and we know that with shoppers’ help we can exceed last year’s total, so we’re encouraging everyone to pop by our wrap station and help us to continue the vital services we offer in the region.”
