X FACTOR winner Matt Terry will join a trio of the show’s biggest stars in South Shields this summer as he takes to the stage for the third event in this year’s Sunday Concerts series.

The 2016 champion has been named as a late addition to the programme, and will join Louisa Johnson, Jedward and 5 After Midnight at Bents Park on Sunday 23 July for the open air concert, part of the South Tyneside Festival.

Matt rose to fame late last year after auditioning for the show with his version of Ben E King’s Stand by Me, earning him four yeses from the judges.

Mentored by Nicole Scherzinger, he made it through judges houses all the way through the live finals, to finally emerge victorious after beating Saara Alto in the final.

His winner’s single, When Christmas Comes Around, written by Ed Sheeran, got to number three in the UK charts and he is currently working on new material.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, is thrilled to be welcoming a fourth star from the show to the festival.

“This is great news, we already had a stellar line up of X Factor stars with Louisa, Jedward and 5 After Midnight, but to have been able to secure 2016 winner Matt Terry too is fantastic,” he said.

“We have welcomed a number of artists from The X Factor in previous years and they always prove to be very popular.

“Louisa Johnson has become a huge star over the last few months and I’m sure in a year’s time Matt will be following in her footsteps, so this is a fantastic opportunity for people to see all of these quality performers in once place.”

The Sunday Concert series, sponsored by Port of Tyne, Colmans Seafood Temple, Town Centre Automobiles and Little Haven Hotel, is one of the most popular elements in the annual South Tyneside Festival and regularly attracts tens of thousands of visitors from across the region and further afield.

This year’s series features four concerts held across consecutive Sundays in July, starting on 9 July.

Admission to all of this year’s concerts remains free but is strictly on a first come, first served basis. Fans can guarantee entry by purchasing a Priority Access Ticket for their chosen show, priced at £5 each.

Priority Access Tickets are available to buy now from Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.co.uk/southtynesidefestivalor by calling 0844 844 0444.
