Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

yarm largeA team of promising intellectuals from Yarm Preparatory School has progressed to the final of a national quiz competition.

The school competed in the national semi-final of Quiz Club’s Key Stage 2 General Knowledge Championship and will now face 11 other schools in the final of the prestigious competition, which takes place at The Old Royal Naval College, in London, on the 21st June.

This year’s team, comprising of pupils Annabel Cochrane, Yusuf Syed, Keya Shah and Shrish Nair, won their semi-final by over 100 points and it is only the second time that Yarm Preparatory School has reached the final, having previously competed at this stage in 2011.

Example questions the pupils were asked include: What is the capital of Mozambique? What does empathetic mean? As well as: When is Star Wars Day?

Over 400,000 children participate in Quiz Club’s Championships each year, making it the largest inter-school quiz competition body in the UK.

Mr Bill Sawyer, Head of Yarm Preparatory School, said: “To reach the final of this prestigious competition is a fantastic achievement and I am delighted for Annabel, Yusuf, Keya and Shrish. The team put in a dominant display in the semi-final and fully deserve to be in the final.

“The questions are from a wide variety of topics, so the pupils are kept on their toes but have still performed strongly throughout the competition. The entire school will be cheering the team on and we would like to wish them all the very best in the final.”
