Screen Shot 2016-06-13 at 07.10.55Yarm School played its part in the Queen’s birthday celebrations after welcoming special guests over the age of 90 for afternoon tea.

Staff and pupils were joined by more than 50 people from within the town’s community after collaborating with Yarm Council to invite residents, which included two guests who were 100 years old.

The residents and their companions were treated to afternoon tea in the school’s atrium as well as entertainment from Yarm Preparatory School’s choir, which included a performance of the national anthem.

Yarm School’s chef, Greg Wallace, also cooked up a giant and delicious Union Jack cake for guests.

The party was hosted ahead of the weekend-long national celebration to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

David Dunn, Headmaster of Yarm School, said: “It is always a pleasure to host events at the school and only fitting to involve the wider community in such a momentous occasion for the UK. The British monarchy is an integral part of the country’s history and recognised throughout the world, so it is vitally important to celebrate such significant milestones.

“Our staff and pupils organised a fantastic day for our guests and I would like to thank everyone who attended and made the day so special.”
