Young musicians from across Darlington and Durham are tuning up for a special performance next month (July) to showcase their talents.

Darlington’s South Park Bandstand will be the venue for ‘Our Big Gig’ on Sunday 9 July, 1-4pm.

Organised by Darlington Music Hub, Durham Music Service and Darlington Borough Council’s events team, the free event has become a popular annual fixture in the town and attracts large crowds of music lovers.

This year’s performance starts with the South Regional Wind Band at 1pm, followed by Darlington District Wind Band at 2pm; Darlington Little Big Band at 2.45pm and finally Durham County Youth Big Band at 3.15pm.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for leisure said:

“There’s a wealth of musical talent in our area and events such as Our Big Gig offer a great opportunity for our young musicians to perform.

“It’s also a great chance for music lovers to get together for an enjoyable afternoon’s entertainment in the marvellous setting of the South Park Bandstand.”

The event is free and there is no need to book; and remember to bring along your own seats and rugs.
