Youngsters encouraged to cast their Votes

logo-landscapeYOUNG people across Stockton Borough have until the end of the week to decide which issues they would like to see debated by the UK Youth Parliament.

Make Your Mark – the UK’s largest youth consultation – is held annually to encourage young people aged 11 to 18 to vote on the issues that matter to them the most.

The ballot will decide which five topics will be debated by the UK Youth Parliament in the House of Commons on 13 November.

This year’s campaign launched on International Youth Day, 12 August. Ballots are open until  this Friday (9 October).

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “The Make Your Mark campaign is the perfect opportunity for young people to have their voices heard on the issues that matter to them the most.

“As future voters, our young people have an important part to play, and this is their chance to be involved in decision making on a national level. Make sure you cast your vote by Friday.”

Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Councillor for Children and Young people added: “The Make Your Mark campaign gives real insight into issues that our young people think about and feel are important, so it is absolutely vital their voices are heard. The ballot offers them a chance to speak up and to learn about democracy. I would encourage all of our young people to make their mark.”
