Two youth clubs in the Seaton Valley have received an award from the High Sheriff of Northumberland in recognition of their efforts towards creating opportunities for young people in the local area.
The winning youth clubs; Seaton Sluice Community Association and Seghill Institute Community Centre both work in partnership with the Northumberland Youth Service to provide a range of activities and services for young people aged 13-19 years.
In recognition of their work, the High Sheriff of Northumberland invited representatives of the two youth clubs to attend a celebration event hosted by the Community Foundation, during which, both organisations were awarded with a certificate for their efforts. Alongside the certificates, each organisation was also given £750 to help towards the running costs of the youth club services.
Tracey Graham, a Youth Worker covering Seaton Valley said: “This event was a great opportunity to recognise the vast range of valuable projects on offer across the region, celebrating the successes and achievements of the smaller organisations that provide vital support to young people in Northumberland.”
Cath McEvoy, Children’s Service Director at Northumberland County Council said, “Northumberland Youth Service provide a range of support and services for the young people of Northumberland offering opportunities to develop and learn new skills alongside those from their home, school, college and work life.
“It is fantastic to see these services offered through different channels throughout the region and to recognise the work of the winning youth clubs to help young people reach these services at a local level.”
