A £1.9m project to protect homes in Middlesbrough from the risk of sewer flooding has been successfully completed.
The project focused on the Gresham Road area, where 170 metres of the sewer network have been significantly upgraded. A new sewer pipe was installed from Bow Street toward Glebe Road, with construction delivered by Northumbrian Water’s partner, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB).
To minimise disruption, the work was carefully phased, progressing section by section along Gresham Road, to avoid prolonged impact outside individual customers’ homes and to maintain local parking access as much as possible.
Tochukwu Okafor, Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager, said: “We’re extremely grateful to the community for their patience and cooperation throughout the delivery of this important investment.
“This investment has enhanced the capacity of our sewer network, making it more resilient to heavy rainfall and increased wastewater flows. By reducing the likelihood of flooding, we’re helping to protect our customers and their properties through these future-proofing improvements to our infrastructure.”
