6 Fun Day Trip Ideas in Prague

If you’re going to spend a day hours in Prague, you might as well make the most of it. Prague is a beautiful city with a lot to see, try, and experience. A day is not enough to see the best of the capital of the Czech Republic, but you can see a lot if you organize your trip.

Check out below some of the most interesting spots and activities to include in your day trip to Prague and start planning your short stay in the City of a Hundred Spires.

Save Time Moving Around Prague

Luckily, it’s easy to walk around Prague, as the main attractions aren’t far from one another. However, not every landmark is close by or located in flat areas, which makes it harder to go on foot.

Make use of Prague’s public transport network. It’s highly efficient and reliable, and it can take you to the main points of the capital. Stay near the underground (metro) stations and tram stops, since you can get anywhere using them.

There are also buses in Prague, but you’ll find them useless since they’re not allowed in the city centre due to the narrowness of Prague’s streets.

Stroll through the Old Town

It might seem cliché, but those who visit Prague, even if just for a day, cannot skip Prague’s Old Town. This historical district that looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale is beautifully constructed with cobblestone streets, wonderful architecture, and memorable landmarks.

While in the area, be sure to admire the oldest working astronomical clock in the world. And if it’s the top of the hour, stick around to enjoy the clock’s show.

Go on an Hour-Long River Cruise

Enjoy the stunning views of Prague from a cruise on the Vltava River. For an hour, you get to see some of the most famous monuments in the capital and take in the beauty of this historical city in total comfort, away from crowds and busy streets.

Shoot Legendary Guns

Spice up your day trip with some gun shooting in Prague. At Prague Ranger, you shoot at a distance of 15 to 500m using historic weapons, such as the AK-47 military rifle and the Soviet Dragunov sniper rifle.

Prague Ranger welcomes everyone over the age of 12, regardless of not having experience or a license. There are six different packages for distinct degrees of experience, from Rookie to Ranger to Ultimate, the expert level.

Have a Delicious Czech Meal

When we think about good food in Europe, we tend to always talk of Italy, France, and the Iberian Peninsula, in general. However, Eastern European gastronomy is not to be ignored, and Prague is proof of that. Traditional Czech food includes delicious soups and an array of dishes with meat, making it ideal for meat-eaters.

Look for a restaurant that serves traditional local food and have a rich meal while in town. Do some research or reach out to locals or a tour guide to avoid tourist traps and places with low-quality service.

Visit Lesser Town and Prague Castle

Cross the beautiful Charles Bridge and enter Lesser Town, another relevant and fascinating district in Prague. Here, you’ll enjoy medieval-like houses, impressive castles, and breathtaking churches and cathedrals.

Looking over the city, you’ll see the Prague Castle, the most notorious monument of the district due to its glory and majesty. Walking to the castle can be tricky, so trams 22 and 23 will take you there.

Relax in Letna Park

Don’t leave Prague without having a beer in one of the hottest spots of the Golden City. With a fantastic view over Prague, the Letna Park is the ideal place to relax at the end of a busy day, grab a bite and have a delicious Czech pint. You can choose from Pilsner, Master’s amber lager, Kozel’s dark lager, Gambrinus, and more.
