Achara named Molten BBL Player of the Month For February

Great Britain and Glasgow Rocks’ star Kieron Achara has been handed the Molten BBL Player of the Month gong for February.

In what was looking like a challenging month for Rocks in the wake of the unexpected departure of forward Marcus Ware, the slack was taken up impressively by Achara, who achieved a superb double-double across the period.

He racked up a terrific average of 18.8 points and 10.2 rebounds during his side’s five games and also proved a defensive colossus too, with 2.8 blocks per game. Those numbers contributed to an impressive performance efficiency valuation of almost 24.

Fending off big challenges from Demond Watt (London Lions) and Andy Thomson (Esh Group Eagles Newcastle) for the award, Achara’s biggest contributions ensured he also made the BBL All Star Five on two separate occasions.

His first appearance came after helping Rocks to edge out Scorchers off the back of his blistering 30-point display at the Emirates Arena.

His second witnessed him amass a spectacular 24 points and 15 rebounds in a super win for Rocks on the road at Leicester Riders – and that came only a day after a similarly towering effort in a win at the Copper Box against London Lions.

It’s certainly been a terrific few days for home-grown stars in the wake of another GB player in Leicester Riders’ Drew Sullivan scooping the MVP award at last weekend’s BBL Trophy Final, while there were four British players slated as starters in this week’s BBL All Star Five.
