Actes Goes for Gold with Health Initiative

Actes Trust has fulfilled its 2018 resolution to embed health campaigns into the workplace by achieving the North East Better Health at Work Gold Award.

The achievement of the award reflects Actes’ commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of its workforce.  Over the past 12 months the organisation has delivered a variety of health campaigns including Mental Health Awareness, Skin Cancer Awareness, Healthy Heart Checks and a mindfulness taster session.

Actes health advocates will now work towards Continuous Excellence in response to the outcomes a recent employee health needs assessment. During 2019 they will drive forward health campaigns, which are currently being determined based on the outcomes of the survey, and staff will have the opportunity to participate in and help shape these.

North East Better Health at Work Award is a partnership programme between all 12 North East local authorities, the TUC and local NHS providers.  Each level of the programme has varying criteria, but the focus throughout is identifying what health issues staff would like to focus on (e.g. cancer awareness, heart health, weight management and health eating, mental health issues) and then running subsequent health improvement campaigns to address the most requested. At the higher levels, organisations are required to embed health and wellbeing into policies and protocols and promote health to workforce family and friends and within the wider community in general.

Carol Kerr, Actes’ business manager and one of the organisation’s health advocates, said: “We are thrilled to have achieved the Better Health at Work Gold Award for our commitment to embedding health initiatives into the workplace over the past 12 months. Health is a very important part of our day-to-day business here at Actes and staff have really embraced the wide variety of initiatives that we’ve made available to them.”
