ALL aboard for a fabulous Fairtrade bus ride and a refreshing brew!
A vintage bus will be making a special journey at the weekend as part of Teesside’s celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight.
Along the route through Hartlepool, Stockton and Middlesbrough there’ll be stops to promote Fairtrade tea and coffee with the help of a giant tea cup and tea bag character.
And when the bus arrives at Preston Park, the overall winner of the Fairtrade backing competition will be announced.
The bus ride takes place on Saturday, March 7, with Fairtrade Fortnight coming to a close the following day.
Fairtrade is an international campaign that ensures that growers in developing countries receive a fair price for their produce, as well as supporting health and education projects in growers’ communities, allowing them to become more competitive in the international trade market.
Middlesbrough has been a Fairtrade Town since 2007, with more than 100 retail and catering outlets, community organisations, faith groups and businesses providing Fairtrade products in the town.
Saturday’s Fairtrade bus timetable:
10am – 11am Promoting Fairtrade in Hartlepool (outside York Road library)
11.30 – noon Preston Park Big Brew event
12.15pm – 1.15pm Promoting Fairtrade, Stockton High Street
1.45pm – 2.45pm MEC join Middlesbrough College Imagineer 2015 event
Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor Councillor Dave Budd said: “Events throughout Fairtrade Fortnight have given lots of people a chance to find more about how they can do their bit to help improve conditions and give local sustainability to communities.
“The campaign is all about giving a fair deal to farmers and workers across the developing world, a principle we’re proud to support in Middlesbrough.”
