“The town will provide a fantastic backdrop for this truly world-class event and we look forward to welcoming cycling fans from far and wide to what will be a memorable spectacle.
“The theme for the stage is a celebration of our proud links with Captain James Cook and this is an opportunity to share that heritage with a whole new audience.
“Crowds on the day and a huge television audience will have a chance to see some of the biggest names in cycling as they make their way through the town before tackling a really challenging route to Scarborough.
“Between now and next May we will working with a number of partners to lay on a series of events as excitement mounts ahead of the main event.”
