As we mark ‘Women In Construction Week’, we talk to Adderstone Living’s Land Manager Ashleigh Wright, about her experience of working in the industry, what she enjoys about her job, and what the sector offers women.
- Tell us about your job?
As a Land Manager for Adderstone Living, I’m responsible for identifying and securing both immediate and strategic sites to deliver much needed housing. It’s an extremely interesting and diverse role that spans a broad spectrum of activities: from site identification and land appraisals through negotiating contracts with landowners and agents to promoting strategic sites through the planning process.
- How long have you worked in construction?
I’ve worked in construction for five years, starting in 2020 as a Land and Planning Graduate for a large housebuilder.
- As a woman, how do you find working in the construction industry?
I truly enjoy working in the construction industry and would actively encourage other women to pursue careers in the sector. As I progress in my own career, I’ve noticed more women entering the field, and definitely don’t feel that being a woman puts me at a disadvantage when it comes to career opportunities.
- Why do you find the house building industry interesting?
What I find most interesting about the housebuilding industry is the wide range of people you get to meet; from landowners and agents to the consultants and local authorities you collaborate with to bring the developments to fruition, it really is a people-oriented industry.
- Would you recommend working in the construction sector to other women?
Absolutely, the industry offers a diverse range of opportunities, and as more and more women see the opportunities open to them and enter the sector, the environment is becoming even more inclusive and supportive.
