South Tyneside Restaurant Week, organised by South Tyneside Council, runs for the first time fromOctober 3 2015.
To celebrate the initiative, which involves eateries across the borough, Radhuni at Ocean Road, South Shields will be serving six authentic Indian dishes, which owner, Kowsar Choudhury, believes have never previously been offered in the North East.
This includes samosas stuffed with sardines and spices, a traditional fish curry which is popular in Bangladesh and a unique twist on the popular chicken Korma.
“The dishes we’ve designed for South Tyneside Restaurant Week have never featured on our menu before,” he said, “and I’d be surprised if they’d ever been served at any restaurants in the North East.
“We hope, that by offering something different, diners will have the opportunity to try more elements of Indian cuisine and to expand their tastebuds beyond what is usually available.”
Radhuni is one of dozens of restaurants taking part in the inaugural South Tyneside Week, which also includes venues in Boldon, Hebburn, Jarrow and South Shields.
Participants in the event, designed to boost tourism, will be offering their own two course set menus from October 3 to October 10, with prices and dishes varying from venue to venue.
Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “Radhuni is one of many great restaurants across South Tyneside and we are delighted to have them on board for South Tyneside Restaurant Week 2015.
“I am sure our visitors will have a wonderful time trying out their new dishes, as well as the wide array of other cuisines that will be offered elsewhere.”
Radhuni’s special South Tyneside Restaurant Week menu, which offers a choice of three starters and three main courses, will be served during regular opening hours in addition to its usual offerings, priced at £9.95 for two courses plus rice.
