BABY SHOWER CELEBRATIONS FOR CARER IN LOCKDOWN

A care assistant at Sowerby House, Thirsk, has been surprised with a socially distanced baby shower by her colleagues at the care home.

Tanya Uluikadvu, 39, had a baby shower planned with her friends and family however, due to the UK’s lockdown, she was unable to celebrate as planned.

The staff at the care home decided to plan a surprise, stand-in baby shower so that Tanya, who is expecting a little girl on 30 May, got the celebration she deserved.

The idea started when a member of staff at Sowerby House, Louise Roberts-Duke, decided to start a collection to buy Tanya and her new baby a gift. Soon, the staff at the home all pulled together and planned a pink-themed celebration with a cake for everyone to share.

Tanya said: “I couldn’t believe it when I walked into the room and saw what my friends at Sowerby House had organised for me. It was a bitter-sweet moment, it was a real shame I couldn’t celebrate as planned but the surprise baby shower definitely made up for it. Thank you to everyone who helped to make it happen!”

Katie Hodgson, home manager at Sowerby House, said: “Tanya is a much-loved member of the team at Sowerby and we all knew how upset she was that she couldn’t have her planned baby shower.

“We’re all great friends, not just colleagues, so we all pulled together to make sure she could celebrate the day like she deserved.”

Sowerby House forms part of Larchwood Care, and is currently managed by Healthcare Management Solutions. The home is currently rated ‘Good’ by the CQC.
