School may have been out for summer but not at Bede Gaming which has undertaken a timetable of charitable activities in aid of West End Foodbank.

Supporting an initiative led by The NBS to provide back to school essentials for families in need, Bede’s Gosforth office came together to raise funds and collect much-needed items.

Stationery from pencil cases to notepads and pens and pencils were donated as a result of fundraising activity by the companies.

Bede’s efforts included a ‘back to school’ themed quiz and bake sale, while employees, clients and neighbouring businesses were encouraged to make donations.

Committed to aiding local good causes year-round, employees at Bede are encouraged to put forward charitable causes in need of support. Additionally, there’s the chance to select a charity of the quarter which receives a donation of the profits from an office ‘tuck shop’.

Eileen Wood, Bede champion working within the company’s HR department in Gosforth said: “We recognise that the school holidays are an expensive time, never mind having to prepare for the return to the classroom, which is why we were keen to support The NBS’s initiative in aid of West End Foodbank.

“It was great to see our people come together to fundraise, hopefully giving families one less thing to worry about before going back to school. Culture is key to everything we do at Bede, which giving back to our community is a huge part of.”

Bridget Hamilton, social and community coordinator at The NBS added: “I wanted to do something in memory of my dad who was a huge advocate of children getting a proper, well-rounded education. This led to the idea of collecting stationery supplies and pencil cases for the food bank to distribute before the new school year begins.

“Bede has contributed a third of the entire total amount collected which is amazing. It was great to work with the team and other companies with a presence in the North East to help families living in and around Newcastle.”

West End Foodbank is the UK’s largest foodbank and supported over 40,000 people last year, which can include up to 150 people per day during the school holidays.
