Four students, from Richmond School and Sixth Form College, have each been presented with a prestigious Arts Award from the iconic Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle. The Museum, which has a nationally renowned art collection, welcomed the Richmond School and Sixth Form Students to complete their work experience in the Education department.
The students helped with a variety of activities, including schools workshops and family events. During their placement they completed the Arts Award qualification, which is supported by Trinity College London. The qualification enables students to learn about the arts and arts-management skills and the students discussed the wide variety of art forms at the Museum, as well as taking part in arts activities and sharing their new skills with others.
Giselle Bacon, Year 13 Student, commented:” I really enjoyed having the opportunity to work with several groups of ten primary school pupils and found it very rewarding to see them getting so much from the activities that I prepared and ran for them. It was a valuable experience which enhanced my transferable skills, including how to plan and organise events.”
Gemma Scott, Education Assistant from The Bowes Museum said: “We would like to thank the Richmond School and Sixth Form students for the contribution they made to the Museum during their time with us. We hope that they enjoyed working at the Museum and wish them the best of luck in their future careers”.
Ms Mannion, Manager Careers and Employability said: “We are so proud of the students and the way that they represented Richmond School and Sixth Form College. Our partnership with the Bowes Museum is extremely important to us, enabling us to offer high-quality work placements to students. Our students gained valuable employability skills too and we are very grateful to the Museum for all its support”.
