Billingham Rugby Club’s most successful season to date will be capped with the official opening of their new artificial pitch at the upcoming Durham County Sevens.

Work began in March, and the long spell of dry weather means construction is on target for the competition which takes place on 24th June.

Durham County Sevens has again been selected as one of the England 24/7s playoffs, with the winners progressing to the regional qualifier and onwards to the national finals In Twickenham on 29th July. Director of Rugby Chris Hyndman said, “The RFU’s recognition of this leading event in the North East calendar is a real testament to the club’s hard work.”

Billingham has a long history of hosting the County Sevens competition. Durham University completed a hat-trick of wins in 2016 – who will take the crown this year?
