A Bishop Auckland opticians will put the focus on cracking good reads when it stages a charity book sale on Friday 2 March.
Staff at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on Cockton Hill have donated books from home and collected titles from family and friends to sell in aid of Alzheimer’s Society and to mark World Book Day on 1 March.
To add to the fun, the team will dress up as favourite book characters and have a bake sale.
There is also a competition for children to design a book cover which will run until 24 March, with the £1 entry fee going to the charity.
Branch manager Jo Bestford said: “Alzheimer’s affects a growing number of people in our community and there is a real need for continued research and support. Our book sale is a chance for us to raise funds and awareness for a cause we care about.”
Scrivens is supporting Alzheimer’s Society for a fourth successive year after raising £35,000 last year. It was chosen because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s. The family run business, which was established in 1938, has 183 stores in England and Wales, and 1,000 employees. For more information, visit www.scrivens.com
