Brakes are off for the Active Sunderland Big Bike Ride

SUNDERLAND is ‘gearing up’ for its annual Active Sunderland BIG Bike Ride on Sunday 11 June, with hundreds of cyclists set to pedal their way to fitness on various routes throughout the city.
Utilising the cycle path network in Sunderland, the BIG Bike Ride has been designed to cover a variety of distances to make sure that everyone, regardless of experience or ability, can join in.

Victoria French, Head of Events for Sunderland City Council, said: “The Active Sunderland BIG Bike Ride is a great way to get active and have fun with your friends and family, whatever your ability”.

She added: “The city has over 100 kilometres of dedicated cycle routes providing easy access for beginners as well as the long distance enthusiast. Sunderland lies at an excellent location on the national cycle network and few cities can provide traffic free cycling on such a scale, from the heart of the city to the suburbs and countryside”.

The Active Sunderland BIG Bike will start and finish at the University of Sunderland’s Sir Tom Cowie Campus on St Peter’s Riverside. Starting at 9.30am, cyclists will have a choice of two distances, 20 or 35 miles covering many areas within the city.

Entry

Entry is only £10.00 per person and includes an Active Sunderland backpack, medal and goody bag.
