The Junior British League sees the best clubs from all over the UK come together to compete across 8 Boys divisions and 4 Girls divisions, with over 300 talented table tennis players taking part at Derby Arena over two weekends, going into the final weekend of the Junior British League, both the boys and girl’s sides had everything to play for.

The Boys team sat joint top of Division 4A, with Generation 2 from Portsmouth and Rotherham Scorpions, While the Girls team were 4th of Division 3.

The Girls, represented by Amy Mold, Anya Milne, Ebony Hempsell and Pravesha Ragi, started with their local rivals Ormesby going down 4-2, but this would be the only loss of the weekend, following up that loss with a 4-2 win over second placed Wensum from Norwich and a 5-1 win over Lillington, Leamington Spa before beating top of the league Woodfield from Wolverhampton 4-2 and to finish the weekend a 3-3 draw with Byng Hall, Kent. Going into the last round of matches it was still possible for the girls to win the league, but a specific set of results were needed, which didn’t happen.

The boys of Andrew McRae, Harvey McDonald, Jake Haygarth and Luke Mitchell, knowing any dropped points could see them loose the league started with a 4-2 win over Byng hall, Kent, last time the match was a draw so a better result this time round. Next up was the top of the table clash vs Generation 2, who had beaten Rotherham Scorpions 6-0 in there first match to knock Rotherham down the table. A tight match saw the teams draw 3-3 to keep things tied at the top and to keep the pressure on both teams. Next up was Brunswick, London. Where again the boys again came out on top 4-2. The Sunday saw Bishop take on bottom side Table Tennis Daily winning 5-1, while Generation 2 could only draw with Brunswick. This Meant that a win vs 3rd placed Rotherham would see Bishop Auckland win the title, which they dually did, but not without a scare going 1-0 down and two 5th set wins to keep coach Matt Porter on the edge of his seat.
