Business and Government in the Spotlight

Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 11.40.55Easingwold is the base for a major spring conference which will bring local and national politicians together.

The Hambleton Strategic Business Forum will focus on how – and whether – government and business can work together.

Conference members will convene for the fourth year running – this time at the Hawkhills in Easingwold on May 13 – around 100 representatives of businesses, town and estate forums and networking groups in the area are expected.

They will discuss whether government and business can work more closely for increased mutual benefit or if government should leave business alone to pursue its own interests. The conference will also debate whether government provides real support for business and if that can be improved.

“Does government interfere too much into business matters or could it be doing more to help is an interesting subject,” said Forum Chair, Lindsay Ross.

“Winston Churchill famously said ‘some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot, others look on it as a cow they can milk, not enough people see it as a healthy horse pulling a study wagon.’ Ahead of the Referendum this should be an interesting morning and debate between business and government.”

Delegates will hear key note speeches from MP Kevin Hollinrake (pictured); Richard Menage, Chairman of Industrial Textiles and Plastics Ltd; and Debbie Keeble from HECK will join the business panel.

Lindsay Ross, and Hambleton District Council’s Leader, Councillor Mark Robson and Deputy Leader, Councillor Peter Wilkinson, will also address the delegates.

The event will be compered by Anna Addison of Anna Addison Associates.

The conference is organised by the Hambleton Strategic Business Forum and sponsored by Hambleton District Council, Federation of Small Businesses, York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership, North East Chamber of Commerce and Teesside University.
