Business manager for Gateshead’s Metropolitan House as owner reports strong growth

A North East office space specialist is investing in client services and operations on the back of strong growth with the appointment of a business manager.

Ellie Taylor’s role as centre manager at Metropolitan House, where she started as a trainee apprentice six years ago, sees her undertaking responsibility for the overall management of business operations, ensuring high levels of customer service excellence and  nurturing a working environment to attract new business and retain existing clients.

Other key tasks will include managing day-to-day operations including staff activities, supervising and maintaining the building, equipment and supplies, managing administrative tasks, organising meetings and events, liaising with partners and customers, and negotiating with external vendors and service providers.

The move comes as the North East office space market is projected to stay buoyant in 2026, underpinned by a pipeline of demand for flexible, high-quality and sustainable space, despite uncertainty in some quarters.

Other factors supporting growth include recovering leasing demand, the increasing influence of environmental, social, and governance factors in investment decisions, and a shortage of new prime office stock.

Despite the competitive market sector and economic uncertainties, Metropolitan House has seen strong growth in the last 12 months from tenants requiring quality, flexible workspace, explained Peter Conroy.

He said: “We have continued to achieve strong growth with high occupancy levels, offering flexible accommodation opportunities for tenants in the face of a highly competitive North East office sector. We continue to see significant interest from other organisations keen to invest in high-quality, easily accessible and energy efficient office space that meets the demands of modern working practices.”

Looking ahead to the next 12 months, he predicts some challenges but remains optimistic.

“Business confidence is rising as we enter 2026, with the economic uncertainties that undermined 2025 while not having disappeared, they are now very much in the rear-view mirror” he added. “Indicators point towards continued strong demand for high-quality, and sustainable space.”
