Camp Nou crowned fans’ favourite Champions League Stadium, according to study

With the 2022/23 Champions League Quarter Finals here, Ticketgum.com were curious to uncover the most photographic stadiums of this year’s tournament.

By collating the total number of hashtags on Instagram for each venue, they can now reveal which stadiums are the most popular to snap.

Ticketgum.com can reveal that Barcelona’s Camp Nou is the most memorable Champions League stadium, as it reaches over 2 million Instagram hashtags. Barcelona‘s home ground hosted in the group stages, but unfortunately didn’t make it to the round of 16.

In second is Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium (England) with 1,643,400 hashtags, which hosted the Frankfurt v Napoli game in the round of 16.

A.C. and Inter Milan’s San Siro Stadium hits third spot, with 1,421,344 Instagram hashtags. San Siro is set to become a new stadium named ‘The Cathedral’, within a district dedicated to sport and leisure next door to the current arena. San Siro will hold the Quarter Final game between AC Milan and Napoli on the 12th April.

Methodology:
  1. Ticketgum.com were curious to discover which 2023 Champions League stadiums have been the most memorable on social media.
  2. Ticketgum.com utilised Football-Stadiums.co.uk to gather a seed list of all stadiums used for the 2023 Champions League matches. *Only the Champions League games from the group stages, 2023 onward were analysed. Please note, data was not available for Atatürk Olympic Stadium, thus were omitted from the study
  3. Subsequently, each 2023 Champions League stadiums was then inputted into Instagram to collate the total number of hashtags. Relevant variations of the stadium’s names, including the country’s respective writing systems/language were used to gather a more accurate number.
  4. Finally, once the hashtags were tallied for each stadium, these were then ranked in descending order, with the highest number of hashtags deemed as the most memorable on social media.
  5. Data was collected on March 20th 2023, and is subject to change.
