Catering firm celebrates record-breaking Pride event

Drinking at PrideA LEADING North East catering and events firm is celebrating the success of a record-breaking weekend at one of the UK’s largest free LGBT events.

1879 Events Management, part of leading leisure brand SoL, served-up food and drink to more than 50,000 revellers at Newcastle Pride, held at the city’s Town Moor over the weekend (July 15-17).

The Sunderland-based firm was responsible for providing all food and drink at the site via eight catering units and three large bars offering both alcoholic and soft drinks.

More than 250 members of staff were drafted in to help meet the demand from hungry and thirsty festival-goers, working in the bars and serving tasty street food including burgers, fish and chips, Mexican fajitas and vegan cuisine.

The most popular drink over the three-day event was fruit cider, as Michael Laidler, Key Account Executive at 1879 Events Management explained. “Our staff served thousands of pints of fruit cider over the three days, while our catering units reported gourmet burgers and fajitas were the most popular food choices.

“This year we had a pop-up vegan tent which was indication of how diverse the operation was and reflects the work we do to ensure we cater for all different tastes.

“This was our fourth year looking after the catering and hospitality at Newcastle Pride and our busiest yet. It’s been a huge success.”
