Central Heating Initiative To Provide 50% Funding For Landlords

In partnership with the National Landlords Association (NLA), National Energy Action (NEA) invites landlords in Bridlington and the surrounding areas to a meeting on Tuesday, 26th July, to learn about a new initiative that could offer substantial savings on the installation of first-time gas central heating systems.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) has been awarded over £1million to help install central heating systems for those households in the greatest need. The event will outline details about the Council’s initiative, which will provide 50% funding for private landlords toward the cost of first-time gas central heating installations, as well as a free gas connection in properties where a connection does not already exist.

Only landlords who have properties with an energy efficiency rating of ‘E’ or below and who let to tenants in receipt of relevant benefits and tax credits will be eligible for funding.

Once installed, central heating can help households save hundreds of pounds a year, as well as provide a warmer, more comfortable home for tenants.

In addition, central heating installation can also help raise the energy efficiency of a property. From 1 April 2018, properties in the private rented sector (PRS) will be required to have an energy performance rating of E on an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

Lesley Fenton, NLA Representative for Yorkshire and the Humber, said:

“Fuel poverty can be a serious issue for both landlords and tenants, particularly for low-income households that have high energy bills.

“This initiative provides a great opportunity for landlords to save money on installing central heating, thus improving the quality of their properties, adding a connection to the gas network, and passing the benefits on to their tenants.
“The meeting will offer a chance for landlords to stay informed about everything currently happening in the private rented sector and find out whether they are able to benefit from the funding.”

The event is FREE to attend and will take place at The Spa, Harbour Room, South Marine Drive, Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, YO15 3JH.
