A centre in Belmont dedicated to a popular County Durham community leader has been officially opened.
Lynn Jordison House on Broomside Lane was inaugurated on Wednesday, 12 April by the late County Durham Housing Group Board member’s family and former colleagues.
The community centre has been completely refurbished by the housing group prior to taking on its new guise, with space for events, meetings and other activities. Six local groups including a residents association, a choir and a child health group have already signed up to use the facility.
Ms Jordison passed away in June 2016 after a short illness. A plaque bearing the new name of the centre was unveiled by her husband, Clive, during a brief opening ceremony. He described the naming as ‘a wonderful tribute to Lynn’s memory.’
Lynn Jordison had been a key member of County Durham Housing Group’s Board; and also served as chair on the board of Durham City Homes.
County Durham Housing Group Head of Housing Operations, Simon Bartlett, said: “Lynn was a highly respected member of our board who cared deeply about the communities we worked with. Naming this centre in her memory is a great way for us all to remember her.
“I’m sure the centre will be well used and appreciated by many groups in the area.”
