Blyth Town Council Announces Magical 2025 Christmas Lights Switch-On

Blyth Town Council is delighted to announce the return of the much-loved Blyth Christmas Tree Lights Switch-On, taking place on Saturday 22nd November 2025 in Blyth Marketplace. This year’s event promises a full day of festive fun, family entertainment and community spirit, proudly sponsored by Hays Travel and featuring market stalls provided by Wavelength Markets.

The Christmas Lights Switch-On forms part of Blyth Celebrates, an inspiring programme of creativity and community that will run through to March 2026. The festivities will begin at 10am, with stage performances from 11am and the official lighting of the Christmas Tree at 6:30pm.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a packed programme of live entertainment featuring local talent and community groups, including Phoenix Panto, Shanty Singers, Kewen School of Music, Linsay School of Dance, Young Phoenix, Ashington and District Male Voice Choir, William Robinson, Community Voices and a special performance from Good Evening Mr Bublé before the lights are switched on.

Families will be thrilled to visit the Arriva Santa Bus, where children can enjoy crafts and meet Santa himself. Mrs Claus and her elf helpers will also be in Blyth Library from 9:30am until 12pm, hosting festive storytelling, crafts and letter-writing sessions to Santa.

Blyth Marketplace will be transformed into a festive wonderland with free funfair rides, a giant snow globe, delicious food stalls and a selection of quality market stalls provided by Wavelength Markets, offering gifts, treats and festive favourites.

Cllr David Swinhoe, Mayor of Blyth, said:

“Our annual Christmas Lights Switch-On is one of the highlights of the Blyth calendar. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families, friends and neighbours to come together and celebrate the start of the festive season. We’re grateful to our sponsors, Hays Travel, and to all our partners who help make this event so special for our community.”

Everyone is invited to wrap up warm, grab a hot chocolate, and celebrate Christmas the Blyth way on Saturday 22nd November 2025 in Blyth Marketplace.
