Christmas listings – The Word

The Word, National Centre for the Written Word is hosting many events in the run up to Christmas including:-

Musical Christmas in the Atrium

Various dates throughout late November and December

The Word will be joined by a range of choirs and performers in the run up to Christmas filling the Atrium with festive spirit as they sing carols for all to enjoy.

Christmas craft and make course

Wed 5, 12 & 19 December, 5-7pm

£20 (please note the price is for the 3 week course)

Suitable for ages 15 years+

Booking required

Learn how to laser cut and vinyl cut at these sessions and then produce your own bespoke Christmas decorations or presents using the skills you’ve learned! This 3 week course will teach you the basics and then you can get creative and produce something festive or special for Christmas!

History Wardrobe Presents… Dressed to Impress

The Geordie Nativity

Sat 8 December, 11am, 1pm & 3pm

Wisecrack Productions presents… The Geordie Nativity

Join The Word in the Atrium for the now legendary Geordie Nativity (written by Ed Waugh) will be performed live by a fantastic cast including Micky Cochrane and Jamie Brown (both seen in The Great Joe Wilson) on Saturday, December 8, at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Performances last 15 minutes and are free to watch.

Christmas Tales
Sat 8, 15 and 22 December, 10.30am, 12.45pm and 2.15pm

Prices for StoryWorld: £3.50 per child, £2.50 per adult, £10.50 family of 4, £1 children in 1. Suitable for under 7’s and their families.

Be captivated in a Christmas Wonderland at The Word’s festive StoryWorld sessions. A storyteller will tell magical Christmas tales in these unique storytelling sessions as some favourite Christmas characters are projected onto the walls.

Children will sing festive songs, get crafty and play Christmas games in this exciting event!

No Scrooges allowed!

Create and design for Christmas

Sat 8, 15 & 22 December, 10am-3pm

£4 per creation

Suitable for all ages

This session gives children the chance to see their design made in front of their eyes on laser cutters! It could be a keyring, a coaster or headphone tidy. It could be Christmas related or something completely different!

Christmas arts and crafts

Big Goldilocks and the Three Bears Plus

Sun 23 December, 11am-12noon and 2-3pm

Booster Cushion Theatre returns to The Word with a comical retelling of children’s favourite Goldilocks and the Three Bears!

Big Goldilocks wanders off from her parents into the forest but soon gets lost, getting hungry, grumpy and tired! The forest animals decide to escape before she gets even more grumpy on an Animal Rescue Centre which flies high throughout the skies! Goldilocks arrives at the Three Bears’ house for a big bowl of cereal but soon it’s up to the audience to help scare her away…
