Charity hero Ivan Hollingsworth will be taking on his final challenge on the 28 th of October, a 260 mile cycle ride and two consecutive marathon runs, covering half the country from London back to the Freeman Hospital – all in one unbroken stretch with no sleep.
Ivan was a new father who witnessed his infant son’s life being saved at the Children’s Heart Unit Ward at the Freeman Hospital. Since then, he has dedicated years of his life to raising money for the charity that supports the unit. His son, Seb, had only just entered the world when he was diagnosed with a deadly heart condition, Tetralogy of Fallot.
Seb underwent successful open heart surgery at just 16 weeks of age. Since that day, his father has become a charity hero for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund – performing incredible feats year after year, from C2C rides to 100 mile 24 hour runs, all to raise money and awareness for the hospital that saved his son. Thus far, charity efforts inspired by Seb’s story has raised over £478,462 for the charity.
The final challenge, ‘Half a million half a country’ takes place on the 28 th of October and will test Ivan’s endurance to the core. Ivan will be tackling an enormous 260 mile cycle ride, dismounting and then running 52 miles on foot – all without sleep. Ivan hopes that this last challenge will push the total raised to over half a million, which will be used to support the life-saving work of the Children’s Heart Unit Ward.
