Cliff Lift receives Visit England accreditation

The Cliff Lift, which has also seen record visitor numbers for the first half of the year, underwent an inspection by staff from VisitEngland who accredited the 132-year-old attraction.

As staff scored 100% for customer service, the Lift is being put forward for a ‘Welcome’ Accolade later in the year which has previously been won by some of the nation’s best-known visitor attractions such as RSPB Saltholme and the London Tower Bridge exhibition.

The Cliff Lift has already been enjoyed by more people than ever from the start of April until the end of June. 65,136 people have made the 200 foot trip up or down the cliff, which is nearly 7,000 more than last year and 4,000 higher than the previous record set in 2013.

Cllr Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Leisure, said: “Receiving accreditation by VisitEngland shows just how great an attraction the Saltburn Cliff Lift has become. It is a testament to the hard work of the staff that work at the lift as well as staff working behind the scenes to manage the attraction.

“This is what we’ve been aiming for for a number of years so I’m pleased that VisitEngland has not only given us accreditation but nominated the Cliff Lift for a national award.”
