CLIMBING THE LAW SOCIETY LADDER

THE In-House lawyer at a leading North East hospitality and leisure group has been given a Law Society promotion.

Less than six months after Anu Kaura, Head of Legal at Newcastle-based Malhotra Group PLC, became a committee member for the Law Society’s In-House Division, she has been appointed joint vice-chair.

And she hopes this will strengthen her aim of expanding its presence – and awareness of it – in the region.

The Division is the community for in-house lawyers working in corporate and public sectors, not-for-profit organisations and charities.

It aims to bring in-house lawyers together to share best practice and address current issues and challenges in a supportive environment.

Anu, from Prudhoe, Northumberland, spent almost 16 years handling private and legal aid work for law firms prior to joining Malhotra Group in 2017, where she now advises on all areas of law including complex regulatory work, commercial property transactions, employment matters, licensing, trademarking and intellectual property.

Her new role at the Law Society will allow her to be more actively involved in co-ordinating events in the North East and to contribute more effectively to the Society’s engagement programme.

“I am very keen to expand the sense of community among in-house members here in the North East,” said Anu, “and this promotion will really enable me to do that.

“I’m already looking at a variety of mentoring initiatives and I’m in the early stages of planning a social event, which I hope will take place later this year.”

Malhotra Group PLC owns some of the North East’s most popular hotels, bars and restaurants, along with a portfolio of commercial property and residential care homes under its Prestwick Care division.
