Teesside University will support key research and provide opportunities for students through its new partnership with Buckingham Magnetics Ltd.

Buckingham Magnetics Ltd designs, develops and produces innovative solutions to address the limitations of magnetic products, transforming technologies and supporting the growth of industries such as renewable energy, electric vehicles and travel.

Launched by a team of experts, it is ushering in a ‘new era of magnetics’ through its extensive manufacturing work, as well as its commitment to research and development within the sector.

A memorandum of understanding signed by Teesside University and Buckingham Magnetics Ltd has formalised their relationship and paved the way for future collaborations.

Through the partnership, Teesside University and Buckingham Magnetics Ltd will work together on live projects, support the development of innovative products through research and address skills gaps within industry, as well as creating new opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience.

Buckingham Magnetics Ltd has also established the Buckingham Magnetics Innovation Centre together with the University.

Based in Launchpad, Teesside University’s on-campus business incubator, the research centre will be a hub for innovation within the field of magnetics.

Dr David Hughes, Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) at Teesside University, said: “We are thrilled to consolidate our collaborative relationship with Buckingham Magnetics Ltd through the signing of this memorandum of understanding.

“This partnership will enable us to work together on a number of important projects moving forward, and we are pleased to share our knowledge and state-of-the-art facilities with Buckingham Magnetics Ltd in order to support innovation within industry.”

Dr Kapila Warnakulasuriya, Co-Director of Buckingham Magnetics Ltd, is proud to have partnered with Teesside University, adding: “We are honoured and proud to have this research collaboration established with Teesside University which brings the top level academic and industry expertise together to develop enabling technologies for a number of industries with demanding requirements.”

Vajira Dhanapala, Co-Director of Buckingham Magnetics Ltd, who is also a leading solicitor and engineer, said: “This collaboration will not only benefit the industry but also provide the opportunity to local and international students to build up their careers, working closely with industry and academic experts.”
