Community Organisations Have The Chance To Walk Away With Extra People-Power

Screen Shot 2015-04-17 at 09.48.13NORTHUMBERLAND’S largest retail and leisure destination, Manor Walks, is searching for local good causes in need of some extra people-power as it launches its first-ever Community Day.

Organisations across Northumberland, which focus on education and skills development, local enterprise, environment or community amenities and wellbeing, can bid for the services of the Manor Walks Community Day team.

Made up of representatives working across Manor Walks, from centre management and security to its housekeeping and parking departments, the team will donate a day’s worth of their time on Friday 05 June 2015 to deliver on-the-ground support to one community group or charity.

The launch of Manor Walks’ Community Day follows the success of the centre’s annual Community Bursary scheme which was introduced in 2013 and has already seen Blyth Valley Scout District and St Oswald’s Hospice benefit from £5,000 worth of funding each.

Bruno Coppola, general manager at Manor Walks Shopping and Leisure, said: “Located in the heart of Cramlington, Manor Walks is committed to helping to support our local community in creating a vibrant and welcoming place to live, work and visit.

“Following the success of our Community Bursary scheme, which is funded by Hammerson, our team is looking forward to taking our community work a step further by getting hands-on to help one lucky local organisation.

“The team is up for any challenge that will benefit the community so whether groups have a litter pick planned, are looking to set up a new community garden or need some help with a spring clean, we want to hear from them.

“The chance to nominate themselves is open to all Northumberland organisations that provide opportunities to either educate and improve skills for the community, enable skills transfer from Hammerson employees to support the community or project, which offer sustainable or environmental benefits to the community or encourages the improvement of community amenities promoting long term wellbeing.”

Northumberland organisations have until 5pm on Friday 08 May 2015 to get their nominations in to Manor Walks with the winning community group due to be notified by Friday 15 May 2015 and work to be completed by the Manor Walks Community Day team on Friday 05 June 2015.

Northumberland community organisations which would like to be considered by Manor Walks for its 2015 Community Day should contact the centre management team on 01670 735023 or email info@manorwalks.co.uk by 5pm on Friday 08 May 2015.
