Community Theatre’s Sunday Cinema Is Proving A Real Hit With Audiences

The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth is over the moon with the response it has had to the newly launched Sunday Cinema.  The once-a-month movie pilot has been showcasing three current Hollywood films for audiences young and old. The success has been reflected in the number of cinema goers who’ve enjoyed the viewings – nearly 700 people have watched the films and sampled the hot dogs and ice cream.

The pilot has proved so popular that The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth has decided to extend the trial into July 2015.

The Sunday Cinema is Blyth’s first picture house since the doors to The Wallaw closed over 10-years ago.

The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth is supported by Northumberland County Council.

David Garrett, Executive Director of The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth said: “We are delighted with the way the people of Blyth and the surrounding regions have embraced the Sunday Cinema. The idea has always been to provide something fun that audiences will enjoy and come back to time and time again. This is mirrored in the continued return of cinema users and the fabulous feedback that we’ve received so far.  It’s also seen as a welcomed alternative for individuals and families who can’t make it to the out-of-town multiplexes.”

David added: “A community theatre has to be just that – putting on a programme of shows and events for the whole community; and the variety and depth in the film titles on offer is proving a real hit!”

The Sunday Cinema is part of The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth’s 50th anniversary celebrations of entertaining the people of Northumberland and North East England.
