REDCAR & Cleveland Borough Council welcomes £2million of funding from the Department for Transport in order to improve access and ease congestion in a key corner of the borough.
Awarded yesterday, the Government funding will allow the council to improve the flow of traffic at the Swans Corner roundabout as well as the T-junction where Flatts Lane meets the A171.
The plan is to install traffic signals at both locations in order to relieve the congestion around Swans Corner as well as improving the highways infrastructure in anticipation of more cars in the area in the future.
It is hoped that this is the first of many successful funding bids which will be used to improve the infrastructure throughout the borough over the coming years.
Cllr Bob Norton, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, said: “The award of this funding from the Department for Transport will allow the council to get started with improving the roads in one of the busiest parts of our borough. We look forward to improved traffic flows in and around the Nunthorpe and Ormesby areas once the work is complete.”
