An estimated 25,000 people came to the Riverside and surrounding areas to see the night sky illuminated with an amazing pyrotechnic displayby local pyrotechnic firm G2 set in time to classic rock hits from across the decades.

Stockton’s fireworks display is one of the highlights of Stockton Council’s events calendar and is one of the largest free displays in the country.

Before the stunning firework display began BBC Tees presenters Alistair Brownlee and Lisa McCormick warmed up the crowd with their roadshow which included a set of live music from Tees Valley band, The Jar Family, plus special appearances from X Factor’s Kerrianne Covell and BBC Children in Need mascot, Pudsey Bear.

Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ken Dixon, said: “We have a world-class, year-round events programme here in Stockton and last night’s event was another successful example of what we have to offer to provide amazing experiences for our residents as well as encouraging those from further a field to visit Stockton Town Centre.

“We know our annual fireworks display is a much loved free community event enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages and last night was no exception with a stunning rock inspired display and fantastic family atmosphere.

“Not only does the event bring people into the Town Centre boosting local businesses and the Borough’s economy but an organised display is a much safer way to enjoy this seasonal celebration.”
